On Character

It is beyond me.

I just can't understand why ... or how people can be so shrewd. Mind you... that wasn't said in a positive note. I meant shrewd as in "disposed to artful or cunning practices" (shrewd. (n.d.). The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition. Retrieved December 03, 2007, from Dictionary.com website: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/shrewd).

I suppose the word integrity doesn't exist in their vocabulary. it is apparent that no significant virtue is part of their morals, need I say more?; No credibility. No trust. No honesty.

That... or perhaps I am just oblivious to the rising pressure of inanity. Or I am but a dupable prey to today's unprincipled society. A shame. Indeed.

Understand this, however, I am not guiltless. If there is an ounce of self-righteousness in my opinion, it is because I believe in the essence of character:

Your true character is revealed by the clarity of your convictions; the choices you make, and the promises you keep. Hold strongly to your principles and refuse to follow the currents of convenience. What you say and do defines who you are, and who you are...you are forever. ~ Anon

Take a piece of glass, drop it, and watch it shatter into pieces. Once broken, you can no longer put them together, no matter how much you try. The glass is your character. Take care of it.
